Stretching 40 miles across the North York Moors, the Lyke Wake Walk was once Britain’s most popular challenge hike, dwarfing even the Yorkshire Three Peaks. The story of how and why it faded from superstardom is almost as thrilling as the walk itself, as are the myths and mysteries behind it all.
