OS GetOutside Champion Belinda Dixon: "#walk1000miles is incredibly important"

#walk1000miles' official tracking partner OS is always looking to get more people out and about, and as part of their GetOutside initiative they've been looking to find the most inspiring people outdoors.

After sifting through 700 applications from the wonderful and inspirational British public, OS crowned a set of 2018 Champions, and we'll be hearing from them regularly. First Champ up is Belinda Dixon – travel and adventure writer, broadcaster and a leader for the charity the British Exploring Society.

“I love nothing more than being outside in Great Britain and inspiring others to do the same. As an OS GetOutside Champion, travel and adventure writer, it is my role to share the wealth of ways we can all explore – however near or far we go. Sometimes that's through the articles I write, or the talks that I give. It’s all about giving people the confidence and encouragement to show that the outdoors isn’t a scary place and highlight the benefits that an active outdoor lifestyle can bring.

This year, I was humbled to be nominated and awarded the Learning Outside the Classroom’s 2017 Advocate award for the work I do with young people in helping them realise their potential and achieve more than they ever thought possible.

Campaigns such as #Walk1000miles are incredibly important to me as they help motivate people to get outside and take that first step over their threshold.
